Sporting CP opened with a 3–1 victory over Galatasaray, while FC Porto lost 2–0 to Manchester City. The Europa League league phase is now under way: Benfica opened with an impressive 2–0 victory away to Milan, while Lyon, Sunderland, Sparta Praha, Leverkusen, Omonia and Olympiacos also won on Wednesday. Torreense visit Lillestrøm on 17 September, while the Conference League league phase starts on 15 October with Braga away to Copenhagen.

Champions League
Europe's premier club competition has completed Matchday 1. Thirty-six teams compete in an eight-match league phase before the knockout rounds. The opening round produced 16 winners across 18 matches, with only Fenerbahçe–Roma and PSV–Shakhtar ending level.
Europa League

Thirty-six clubs enter the league phase with eight matches each. The opening Wednesday programme is complete: Benfica won 2–0 away to Milan, Lyon beat Anderlecht 2–1 and Sunderland defeated AZ Alkmaar 1–0. Nine more games follow on Thursday, including Celtic–Ferencváros, Beşiktaş–Marseille, Lillestrøm–Torreense and Real Sociedad–Bournemouth.
Conference League

UEFA's third continental competition features 36 clubs in a six-match league phase beginning on 15 October. Braga open away at Copenhagen, while Atalanta host Pafos and Brighton face Kauno Žalgiris.

Portugal in Europe
Five Portuguese clubs are represented across the three UEFA league phases in 2026/27. Benfica then made an excellent Europa League start with a 2–0 victory away to Milan on 16 September. All 18 opening-round matches are complete. Tuesday delivered wins for AEK Athens, Aston Villa, Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City, Real Betis and Real Madrid. Wednesday brought victories for Barcelona, Stuttgart, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, Sporting CP and Arsenal. Thursday closed the round with wins for Como, Bayern München, Manchester United and Lens, plus draws for Fenerbahçe–Roma and PSV–Shakhtar.
