HOLLYWOOD — One of cinema’s most iconic action heroes is poised for a major comeback. John Rambo, the legendary Vietnam War veteran first immortalized by Sylvester Stallone in 1982’s First Blood, is set to return to theaters in a new prequel that will explore the character’s formative years and the roots of his elite combat skills.
According to industry reports, the upcoming project aims to delve into the backstory of the man before he became the symbol of survival and guerrilla warfare. The film is expected to follow a young John Rambo, tracing his journey from an average American youth to the highly decorated Green Beret who would eventually become a “one-man army.”

Sylvester Stallone, who has portrayed the character across five films over nearly four decades, has long expressed interest in a prequel. While Stallone is not expected to play the lead role due to the timeline, he is heavily involved in the project’s creative direction, ensuring the film stays true to the gritty, psychological depth that defined the original character.
“We want to show the audience how a hero is made,” a production source stated. “It’s not just about the action; it’s about the transformation of a young man during one of the most tumultuous eras in history.”
The casting for the young Rambo remains under tight wraps, sparking intense speculation among fans and critics alike. Production is rumored to begin later this year, with a focus on capturing the raw atmosphere of the late 1960s and early 70s. For fans of the franchise, this prequel promises to provide long-awaited answers about the trauma and training that shaped the soldier who “didn’t come to rescue Rambo from you, he came to rescue you from Rambo.”
