Japan recorded an emphatic 4,0 victory over Tunisia on Saturday in the 1,000th match in FIFA World Cup history, securing a crucial win in Group F and eliminating the North African side from the 2026 tournament.
The Samurai Blue made a dream start when Daichi Kamada opened the scoring after just four minutes, putting Japan firmly in control from the outset.
Ayase Ueda doubled the lead in the 31st minute, giving the Asian side a comfortable advantage before halftime. Japan continued to dominate after the break, with Junya Ito adding a third goal in the 69th minute.

Ueda completed his brace seven minutes from time, finding the net again in the 83rd minute to seal a comprehensive 4,0 triumph.
The victory was a strong response from Japan after their opening 2,2 draw against the Netherlands and significantly boosted their hopes of reaching the knockout stage.
Tunisia, meanwhile, was unable to recover from the early setback and suffered its second defeat of the tournament. With no points from two matches, the Eagles of Carthage are mathematically eliminated from the World Cup.
In the Group F standings, Japan moved level on four points with the Netherlands, who earlier defeated Sweden 5,1. Sweden remains in contention with three points, while Tunisia sits bottom of the group without a point.
The result also carries historical significance, as it came in the 1,000th match played in FIFA World Cup history, marking a memorable milestone for the tournament and a landmark victory for Japan.
Tunisia became the latest nation eliminated from the competition, joining Haiti and Turkey among the teams already out of the 2026 World Cup.
