The United States has deployed autonomous sea drones in combat for the first time, opening a new chapter in modern naval warfare and demonstrating how unmanned maritime systems are becoming an increasingly important component of military operations.

First operational use in combat
According to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), unmanned surface vessels were employed during coordinated strikes targeting Iranian naval facilities, including infrastructure used to support the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy.
The operation marked the first confirmed combat employment of American sea drones, which operated alongside fighter aircraft, naval vessels and unmanned aerial systems in a combined strike package.
Military officials described the deployment as a significant milestone in the evolution of autonomous warfare at sea.
