RC16
Austria's MotoGP weapon
The RC16 is KTM's purpose built prototype for the MotoGP World Championship.
KTM's premier class project brings together high performance V4 engineering, advanced aerodynamics, sophisticated electronics, braking technology and a chassis package developed for the extreme acceleration and deceleration demands of modern MotoGP.
Every Grand Prix provides another development cycle. Rider feedback, telemetry, tyre behaviour and aerodynamic data are transformed into engineering decisions as KTM searches for fractions of a second.
The motorcycle represents the highest level of KTM's road racing engineering programme and one of the most technically demanding machines ever developed by the Austrian manufacturer.
Ready to Race
KTM approaches MotoGP through the same competition first philosophy that runs throughout the manufacturer's racing programmes. The RC16 was created not as a road motorcycle adapted for racing, but as a pure Grand Prix prototype.
Engine architecture, chassis behaviour, aerodynamics, electronics and rider ergonomics are developed as one interconnected system. The objective is straightforward: translate engineering development into lap time.
The RC16 therefore serves simultaneously as a racing machine and an engineering laboratory, where every race provides data that influences the next stage of development.
Anatomy of the RC16
The fundamental systems behind KTM's MotoGP prototype combine extreme power, aerodynamic control, braking performance and increasingly sophisticated electronic management.
V4 Architecture
KTM's prototype is built around a compact V4 engine architecture developed specifically for premier class motorcycle racing.
Integrated Aero
Wings and aerodynamic bodywork influence wheel load, stability, acceleration and braking behaviour.
Extreme Speed
The RC16 has demonstrated exceptional straight line performance at the fastest venues on the MotoGP calendar.
Control Systems
Traction, engine braking and power delivery are managed within MotoGP's unified electronics environment.
Built for Grand Prix racing
WP Suspension
Competition suspension technology developed within the KTM racing ecosystem and adapted to the extreme demands of MotoGP.
Brembo Brakes
Carbon braking hardware allows enormous deceleration at the end of MotoGP's fastest straights.
Michelin Tyres
The RC16 is developed around the grip characteristics and operating window of MotoGP's official control tyres.
Akrapovič Exhaust
High performance exhaust engineering is integrated into KTM's V4 competition package.
Factory Riders
Pedro Acosta and Brad Binder lead KTM's factory MotoGP programme, combining a new generation of elite talent with years of RC16 development experience.
Pedro Acosta
One of MotoGP's defining young talents, Acosta combines aggressive braking, corner entry confidence and natural speed with a riding style capable of extracting the limits of the RC16.
Brad Binder
Binder's long relationship with KTM makes him one of the central figures in the RC16 development programme. His experience provides valuable continuity as the project evolves through its tenth MotoGP season.
2026 Campaign
KTM continues the tenth season of its MotoGP programme during the final campaign of the championship's current 1000 cc technical era.
The final season of the 1000 cc era
The 2026 championship carries particular significance for the RC16. It is the final campaign under MotoGP's current 1000 cc engine regulations before the championship enters a new technical era in 2027.
For KTM, the season is therefore both a championship campaign and the culmination of a decade of development with its original premier class prototype concept.
Pedro Acosta has repeatedly placed the RC16 among the leading motorcycles during 2026, including his intense fight with Marc Márquez for victory at Balaton Park.
2017 · 2026
From newcomer to established MotoGP manufacturer
KTM entered MotoGP competition with the RC16 in 2017. The 2026 season therefore represents the tenth campaign of an engineering programme that has evolved through victories, podiums, technical experimentation and thousands of kilometres of Grand Prix development.
Across that decade, the RC16 has become one of the most distinctive prototypes on the grid and a central part of KTM's international racing identity.
