WASHINGTON — In a meeting at the White House on Tuesday, King Abdullah II of Jordan reiterated his country’s firm opposition to the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza and the West Bank, highlighting the continued support for a two-state solution as the path to regional peace.

The Jordanian monarch spoke about his “constructive meeting” with US President Donald Trump, emphasizing the longstanding partnership between the United States and Jordan. The discussions focused on the ongoing conflict and the broader Middle East peace process. King Abdullah’s remarks on social media reaffirmed Jordan’s commitment to the Palestinian cause, saying, “I reiterated Jordan’s steadfast position against the displacement of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. This is the unified Arab position.”

King Abdullah further expressed concern over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, stressing the need to rebuild the region without uprooting its people. He called for prioritizing the restoration of peace and humanitarian aid in the conflict zone, underscoring the importance of addressing the dire situation on the ground. “Rebuilding Gaza without displacing the Palestinians and addressing the dire humanitarian situation should be the priority for all,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

The Jordanian King also highlighted the importance of achieving a just peace based on a two-state solution to ensure long-term stability in the region. “This requires US leadership,” Abdullah noted. “President Trump is a man of peace. He was instrumental in securing the Gaza ceasefire. We look to the US and all stakeholders to ensure it holds.”

In addition, King Abdullah stressed the critical need for de-escalation in the West Bank to prevent further violence, warning that any deterioration in the situation could have wide-reaching consequences for the entire Middle East. He reaffirmed Jordan’s role in pushing for a comprehensive and just peace for all parties involved.

During the meeting, President Trump made controversial remarks about the future of Gaza, stating, “We’re going to run it very properly,” while expressing his intention to place Gaza under US control. His proposal, widely criticized in the international community, would see the besieged strip placed under American administration, a move seen by many as unfeasible and potentially destabilizing.

Despite the contentious nature of Trump’s comments, both leaders agreed on the importance of continuing diplomatic efforts and collaboration. King Abdullah’s comments reinforced Jordan’s long-standing position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the broader Middle East peace process.

While the US and Jordan continue to work closely on security and political matters, this exchange underscores the complexities surrounding the Gaza conflict and the differing visions for its resolution. The international community, particularly in the Arab world, will likely continue to closely monitor the evolving US stance on the issue.
