Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) has arrested one of its own high-ranking officials, Colonel Dmitry Kozyura, for allegedly engaging in espionage activities on behalf of Russian intelligence. Kozyura, the Head of the Counterterrorist Center within the SBU, was apprehended in an operation led by the agency’s chief, Vasyl Maliuk. The arrest has sent shockwaves through Ukraine’s security establishment, raising concerns about the infiltration of sensitive national security positions.

Maliuk revealed that the SBU employed encrypted software interventions to access the electronic devices used by Kozyura, as well as audio-video surveillance methods, to confirm his illicit activities.
“All methods of open and covert operational-search activities were used during the person’s arrest,” Maliuk said in a statement. “We intervened in the electronic devices used by Colonel Dmitry Kozyura through encrypted software in accordance with special procedures, as well as employed audio-video surveillance. During this process, his actions, specifically the transmission of relevant information to the opposing side, were fully proven.”
The SBU’s investigation reportedly uncovered that Kozyura had been transmitting sensitive information to Russian operatives, compromising Ukraine’s counterterrorism efforts. As the head of the Counterterrorist Center, Kozyura had access to classified materials and operations that were crucial to the country’s ongoing efforts to combat both domestic and foreign terrorist threats.
The arrest marks a significant blow to the integrity of Ukraine’s security forces, as it highlights the growing threat of infiltration by hostile foreign intelligence agencies, particularly Russia.
