LIVERPOOL — Anfield erupted in joy on Sunday as Liverpool crowned their spectacular season with a 5-1 demolition of Tottenham Hotspur, securing their first Premier League title since the 2019/20 campaign. The emphatic victory also allowed the Reds to equal Manchester United’s record of 20 English league championships.

The match mirrored Liverpool’s season, moments of tension followed by overwhelming dominance. Tottenham, playing without pressure, shocked the home crowd early when Solanke headed in a corner from Maddison after 12 minutes. But Liverpool, determined not to let the title slip away, responded almost immediately.

Mohamed Salah orchestrated the equalizer just five minutes later, weaving through Spurs’ defense to set up Dominik Szoboszlai, who unselfishly squared for Luis Díaz to score. Though the goal was initially ruled out for offside, VAR intervention confirmed it, putting Liverpool back on track.

Spurred on by a raucous crowd, Liverpool continued their onslaught. Alexis Mac Allister fired home a thunderous strike in the 24th minute after Ryan Gravenberch forced a turnover high up the pitch. The Argentine’s goal put Liverpool ahead, and from there, there was no looking back.

Cody Gakpo made it 3-1 in the 34th minute, exploiting defensive lapses by Ben Davies and Kevin Danso. His celebration evoked memories of Kaká’s famous gesture after AC Milan’s 2007 Champions League victory — a fitting tribute on such a historic day.

The second half saw Liverpool ease into a more measured rhythm, but their forward line remained lethal. Salah added his name to the scoresheet again, cutting inside from the right before curling a shot into the far corner for Liverpool’s fourth.

Manager Arne Slot, with the title effectively secured, rotated his squad, bringing on Diogo Jota among others. The Portuguese forward contributed immediately, playing a part in the Reds’ fifth goal after Udogie blocked Salah’s attempt but couldn’t stop Liverpool’s momentum.

Late chances fell to Darwin Núñez, but his misses could not dampen the party atmosphere that swept through Anfield at the final whistle. Players like Alisson, Kelleher, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Andrew Robertson, Curtis Jones, Salah, and Harvey Elliott celebrated their second Premier League title in Liverpool colors.

For Arne Slot, the victory was historic. The Dutchman becomes only the fifth manager to win the Premier League in his debut season, joining the elite company of José Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti, Antonio Conte, and Manuel Pellegrini.

Liverpool fans flooded the streets outside Anfield, singing and waving scarves in jubilation. After years of near misses and heartbreaks, the Reds once again reign supreme in English football.
