Max Verstappen continued to etch his name in Formula 1 history on Saturday by taking pole position for the British Grand Prix, his 44th with Red Bull, equaling the team record previously held by four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel.

Verstappen clocked a blistering 1:24.892 on his final lap at Silverstone, edging out championship leader Oscar Piastri (McLaren) by just 0.103 seconds. Lando Norris, also of McLaren, secured third, only 0.118 seconds off the pace.

“It was tough with the changing wind, but I’m happy,” Verstappen said. “We’ll have to see what tomorrow brings, especially if it rains, but we’re ready to fight.”

The Dutchman, now tied for fifth on the all-time poles list with 44, still trails record-holder Lewis Hamilton, who has 104. Hamilton will start fifth, just behind Mercedes teammate George Russell and ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.

The session wasn’t without drama: Alpine’s Franco Colapinto triggered a red flag with a crash, while Haas rookie Oliver Bearman spun at 260 km/h in FP3 and received a grid penalty.

The race kicks off Sunday at 15:00 local time, with expectations high for an intense battle between Red Bull and McLaren under potentially unpredictable British skies.
