SALT LAKE CITY — The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has released images of a person of interest in the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk and is offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of the suspect. The announcement marks a significant development in the high-profile case that has intensified national debates over political violence and security.

Images and Appeal for Public Assistance

On Thursday afternoon, the FBI’s Salt Lake City field office published the images on its official social media account with an urgent plea for help.
“We are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying this person of interest related to the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University,” the post stated.

The release of the images is part of a broader effort to gather clues from the public amid an expansive manhunt. No arrests have been made so far.

Weapon Recovered

Authorities confirmed that the weapon used in the shooting—a high-powered, bolt-action rifle—was recovered in a wooded area near the university. The rifle, described as a key piece of evidence, was found wrapped in a towel. Forensic teams are analyzing the firearm along with additional evidence collected at the scene, including footwear impressions and biological samples.

The Shooting

Kirk, 31, was shot in the neck on Wednesday while speaking at an outdoor event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. He was participating in his “American Comeback Tour” and taking questions from a crowd of approximately 3,000 people when the attack occurred.

Videos of the incident, widely circulated on social media, show Kirk pausing during a discussion about mass shootings before a single gunshot is heard. He immediately slumps forward, and staff rush to his aid as panic erupts in the crowd.

Investigation and Political Context

The assassination has drawn national attention, highlighting deepening political divisions and a rise in ideologically motivated violence. Kirk, the founder of the conservative student group Turning Point USA, was a polarizing figure and a close ally of former President Donald Trump.

In response to the killing, Trump described Kirk as “great, and even legendary,” and ordered flags to be flown at half-staff. Leaders across the political spectrum, including President Joe Biden, condemned the violence.

The FBI has not yet commented on a possible motive, but continues to investigate all leads. The agency urges anyone with information to contact its Salt Lake City office or submit tips online.

Reward for Information

The $100,000 reward underscores the urgency and severity of the case. The FBI emphasized that all tips will remain confidential.

As the manhunt continues, the story remains at the forefront of national news, reflecting ongoing tensions surrounding free speech, political extremism, and violence in the United States.
