Jerusalem — Israel sharply condemned the recognition of a Palestinian state by the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia, warning that the move destabilizes the region and rewards Hamas.

In a statement issued Sunday, Israel’s Foreign Ministry described the coordinated recognition as a “one-sided declaration” that undermines peace efforts.

“Israel categorically rejects the one-sided declaration of the recognition of a Palestinian state made by the United Kingdom and some other countries,” the ministry said. “This declaration does not promote peace, but on the contrary, further destabilizes the region and undermines the chances of achieving a peaceful solution in the future.”

Israeli officials highlighted comments from Hamas leaders who described the recognition as “the fruits of the October 7 Massacre.” The ministry said such remarks proved the decision effectively rewards what it called the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust.

“It is destructive to separate statehood,  one of the final status issues, from peace,” the ministry added. “This move goes against all logic of negotiation and compromise between the two sides, and it will push the desired peace further away.”

The statement also accused the Palestinian Authority of failing to meet its obligations, citing ongoing incitement, financial incentives to families of attackers, and a failure to dismantle terrorist networks. Officials pointed to the recent discovery of rockets and missiles near Ramallah as evidence of what they called persistent security threats.

“The Palestinian Authority is part of the problem and not part of the solution. This is also the reason why the United States imposed sanctions on the Palestinian Authority and prevented its senior officials from entering its territory,” the ministry said.

Israel further emphasized it would not accept imposed terms that leave it with what it described as “indefensible borders.”

“Political gestures aimed at a domestic voting audience only harm the Middle East and are not helpful,” the statement concluded. “If these countries truly wish to stabilize the region, they should focus on pressuring Hamas to release the hostages and to disarm immediately.”

The recognition of Palestine by the three Western nations marks a watershed moment in international diplomacy, but Israel’s firm rejection underscores the deep divisions that remain over the path to peace in the region.
