OSLO / WASHINGTON – A series of text messages and diplomatic communications between U.S. President Donald Trump and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre has been made public, shedding light on the escalating pressure from Washington regarding the proposed acquisition of Greenland.

The messages, which circulated on Monday, reveal a blunt and transactional tone from the U.S. President. In one exchange, Trump reportedly pressured the Norwegian leader to use his influence within the Nordic Council to facilitate “a smooth transition” for Greenland’s sovereignty, citing the territory’s strategic importance for North American defense.

Prime Minister Støre’s responses, according to the leaked text, remained firmly diplomatic but resolute. He reiterated that Greenland is an autonomous territory under the Kingdom of Denmark and that any discussion regarding its status must be handled through Copenhagen and the Greenlandic government in Nuuk.

“The Arctic is a region of cooperation, not a real estate market,” Støre reportedly wrote in one message, to which Trump allegedly responded by mentioning the “lopsided” nature of current NATO contributions and hinting at “economic consequences” for allies who obstruct American security interests.

The publication of these messages comes at a critical time, as tensions flare at the World Economic Forum in Davos. European leaders have expressed growing concern over what they describe as “strong-arm diplomacy” from the White House.

The White House has not denied the authenticity of the messages but emphasized that the President is “using every tool at his disposal” to protect the Western Hemisphere from foreign influence in the Arctic. Meanwhile, the Norwegian government has declined to comment further on the leak, citing the sensitivity of ongoing diplomatic channels.
