NEW YORK – Electronic music pioneer Moby has announced the release of his 23rd studio album, Future Quiet, described by the artist as a sonic sanctuary for an increasingly chaotic world. Set to arrive on February 20, 2026, via BMG, the album is preceded by a haunting new orchestral version of his 1995 cult classic, “When It’s Cold I’d Like to Die.”
The announcement signals a pivot toward minimalism and ambient textures, moving away from the high-energy rave roots that defined his early career in favor of what Moby calls “a refuge.”
A “Refuge” from Modern Noise
Across 14 tracks, Future Quiet explores the intersection of piano minimalism, immersive ambient soundscapes, and select vocal collaborations. In a statement accompanying the reveal, Moby explained that the project was born out of a personal need to retreat from the “screaming” of modern life.
“The world, self-evidently, is more demanding than it’s ever been,” Moby said. “Our screens scream at us, other people scream at us, and to retreat from that screaming, we need safety and refuge. That, for me, is the goal of Future Quiet.”
While Moby admitted his love for musical “excess and volume,” he noted that his creative focus has shifted toward the stillness found in the works of Arvo Pärt, Brian Eno, and the Cocteau Twins.
Reworking a Stranger Things Hit
The lead single is a lush, symphonic reimagining of “When It’s Cold I’d Like to Die,” a track that originally appeared on the 1995 album Everything Is Wrong. Although never released as a single at the time, the song gained a massive second life in recent years after being featured in pivotal scenes of the Netflix series Stranger Things.
This 2026 version swaps the original vocals of Mimi Goese for the “transcendent” voice of Jacob Lusk, lead singer of the acclaimed soul-R&B group Gabriels. Moby recalled hearing Lusk on the radio and spending weeks tracking him down to collaborate. “The results speak for themselves,” Moby noted. “His vocals are, I say with something approaching objectivity, transcendent.”
Biggest Tour in a Decade
The album release coincides with Moby’s return to the stage for his most extensive tour in over ten years. Having recently performed a string of sold-out European dates to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Play, the artist has confirmed headline festival slots for the summer of 2026.
Moby is set to perform at Coachella in April, followed by a headline set at Brighton’s On The Beach festival in the UK on July 26. He will also tour major European cities throughout July, including stops in Athens, Luxembourg, Seville, and Stuttgart. True to his long-standing activism, 100% of the tour profits will be donated to European animal rights organizations.
