SÃO PAULO — The use of helicopters as a routine alternative for travel between the city of São Paulo, the coastline, and the interior has seen an explosive increase. According to the latest data from Revo, a leading Brazilian urban air mobility platform, helicopter flight volume surged by 85% between late 2024 and 2025, while passenger volume grew by 75%.

The sharp rise in demand is being driven by a combination of increased tourism, high-profile private events, and the chronic saturation of São Paulo’s highway system. During peak holiday periods, terrestrial travel between the capital and the northern coast can exceed eight hours due to traffic congestion. In contrast, helicopter flights complete the same journey in roughly 40 minutes, a reduction in travel time of more than 90%.

“Congestion has fundamentally changed how residents plan their travel,” said João Welsh, CEO of Revo. “What we are seeing now is urban air mobility becoming a permanent fixture in the logic of how Paulistanos organize their time and choose their destinations.”

Strategic Growth and Pricing

Controlled by the Portuguese group Omni Helicopters International (OHI), Revo currently operates three twin-engine helicopters in the region and plans to expand its fleet in 2026. The company’s business model focuses on key hubs, including the Faria Lima financial district, major executive airports like São Paulo Catarina, and international hubs like Guarulhos.

The cost for such convenience remains high:

  • Faria Lima to Guarulhos Airport: Approximately R$ 3,500.

  • Capital to Juquehy (Coast): R$ 5,500 to R$ 8,000.

The Future of the Skies

The sector is preparing for a technological leap toward sustainability. Revo has already signed an agreement with Eve Air Mobility (an Embraer company) to incorporate electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft, known as eVTOLs. With initial flights projected for 2027, the company aims to lead the transition to “electric flying taxis,” backed by a $250 million investment from its parent group.

As highway infrastructure continues to struggle under the weight of hundreds of thousands of vehicles during peak seasons, the “democratization” of the skies for high-net-worth individuals and corporate travelers is quickly becoming the new standard for luxury mobility in Brazil’s largest metropolis.
