WASHINGTON — In a dramatic escalation of rhetoric, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth issued a final warning to Tehran on Thursday, declaring that the United States is prepared to employ “all options” to ensure Iran never acquires a nuclear weapon.
Speaking during a high-level Cabinet meeting alongside President Donald Trump, Hegseth emphasized that while the administration remains open to a diplomatic “fair and equitable deal,” the Pentagon’s military readiness is at its peak. The warning follows the recent deployment of a massive U.S. naval “armada” toward the Persian Gulf, led by the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln.
“We will be prepared to deliver whatever this president expects,” Hegseth stated, pointing to the administration’s recent decisive military actions elsewhere as proof of American resolve. “The door for diplomacy is not yet closed, but time is of the essence. Our mission is clear: no nuclear weapons for the Iranian regime.”

The Defense Secretary’s comments align with President Trump’s recent social media posts, in which he warned that any potential U.S. strike would be “far worse” than Operation Midnight Hammer, the June 2025 airstrikes that targeted Iranian nuclear facilities at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.

Tensions in the region have reached a boiling point as the U.S. fleet enters the Arabian Sea. Iranian officials have responded with defiance, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warning that any new military action would “destabilize the entire Middle East” and that U.S. bases in the region would become “legitimate targets.”
International allies have expressed mixed reactions to the buildup.
