CARACAS, Venezuela — In a major shift for regional aviation and diplomacy, Venezuela’s acting President Delcy Rodríguez has called upon international airlines and global investors to return to the country. The announcement follows a decision by U.S. President Donald Trump to lift restrictions on Venezuelan commercial airspace.
Speaking from the capital, Rodríguez confirmed that all commercial flight prohibitions, which had been in place since late 2025, are now officially revoked. The acting president emphasized that this breakthrough came after direct communications with President Trump and high-level discussions with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Trump:
I just spoke to the President of Venezuela and informed her that we are going to be opening up all commercial airspace over Venezuela.

“All airline companies that are supposed to come should come,” Rodríguez stated, signaling a push for economic normalization. “We are talking about the removal of all restrictions on Venezuela’s commercial airspace. All airlines and investors who should come must come to our country.”
The policy change was first detailed by President Trump during his administration’s first Cabinet meeting of the year at the White House. Trump informed his officials that he had personally updated Rodríguez on the reopening, subsequently instructing the U.S. Department of Transportation and military authorities to expedite the process.
The U.S. President noted that the move would allow American citizens to travel to Venezuela once again, asserting that they would be “safe there.”
The diplomatic thaw occurs during a period of intense transition in Caracas. Delcy Rodríguez assumed the role of interim president on January 5, following the capture of Nicolás Maduro during U.S. military operations. While Rodríguez continues to voice opposition to the detention of Maduro, whom she describes as being held “hostage,” she appears focused on restoring the nation’s infrastructure and economic ties through these new channels with Washington.
As airspace opens, industry analysts expect a gradual resumption of routes connecting Caracas to major hubs in North America and Europe, potentially marking the beginning of a new era for the Venezuelan economy.
