ZAPORIZHZHYA, Ukraine — Russian forces have significantly ramped up the transfer of troops and military equipment toward the town of Hulyaipole in Ukraine’s southeastern Zaporizhzhya Oblast, according to recent field reports.
Petro Andriushchenko, head of the Center for the Study of Occupation, reported on February 2 that the Hulyaipole sector has emerged as a primary focus for Russian logistics over the past week. Observers have documented daily convoys consisting of 10 to 25 trucks passing through the region, primarily transporting personnel.

These movements are reportedly highly organized, with military convoys being escorted by police and command vehicles. The surge in activity suggests a strategic pivot by Moscow, as military movements in northern Donetsk Oblast have simultaneously dropped to near zero, a decline some analysts attribute to harsh winter weather conditions in that sector.
Despite the tactical shifts elsewhere, Russian recruitment efforts remain active in the occupied Mariupol-Berdyansk corridor, where the military continues to sign new contract soldiers to bolster its ranks.
The concentration of forces near Hulyaipole signals a potential hardening of the frontline in Zaporizhzhya as both sides prepare for the next phase of the conflict. Ukrainian officials continue to monitor the buildup closely, noting the resilience of Russian logistics despite ongoing pressure from Ukrainian defense forces.
