WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Trump administration is engaged in a high-stakes diplomatic sprint to arrange a direct “off-ramp” to the war with Iran, with senior officials targeting a face-to-face meeting in Pakistan as early as this weekend. However, the prospects for a breakthrough remain shrouded in uncertainty as Tehran mocks the initiative and the Pentagon continues to surge combat power into the region.
According to senior administration officials, the U.S. has transmitted a 15-point proposal to Iranian leadership via Pakistani intermediaries. While the White House is pushing for an immediate sit-down in Islamabad, sources admit that the timing remains “fluid” and it is entirely unclear if Iran has accepted, or even acknowledged, any of the proposed terms.
“Negotiating with Itself”
The diplomatic overture has been met with public derision from Tehran. In a series of official statements, Iranian representatives taunted the White House, suggesting that the United States is “negotiating with itself” by drafting terms without a willing partner.

At sea, the strategic tug-of-war over the Strait of Hormuz has entered a bizarre new phase. Tracking data shows that multiple commercial vessels have successfully transited the waterway since yesterday morning, despite the ongoing hostilities.
However, the “safe passage” comes with a price. Tehran has announced that it will begin charging countries a “protection fee” for transit through the strait.
