Nike has announced plans to cut approximately 1,400 jobs worldwide as part of a broader restructuring effort aimed at streamlining operations and strengthening long-term growth.

The layoffs will primarily affect roles within the company’s technology division, as Nike moves to simplify its organizational structure and improve efficiency. The decision forms part of its ongoing “Win Now” strategy, a plan designed to sharpen competitiveness and reinforce its business model.

Chief Operating Officer Venkatesh Alagirisamy told employees the company is entering the final phase of this transformation. He emphasized that the changes are intended to build a more agile and responsive organization capable of delivering sustained profitability.

“These reductions are very hard for the teammates directly affected and for the teams around them,” he said, acknowledging the human impact of the decision.

As part of the restructuring, Nike will reshape its technology operations by creating leaner teams and consolidating its footprint. The company plans to centralize much of its tech work around two key hubs: its global headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon and the Nike India Technology Center.

Operational adjustments will also extend beyond the tech division. Nike confirmed changes to its Air Manufacturing Innovation units across Beaverton, St. Louis, and Vietnam, where staffing levels will be recalibrated to match current business demands better.

In addition, some resources linked to Converse footwear manufacturing and engineering will be relocated closer to factory partners. The company is also aligning its materials operations more closely with supply chain teams, aiming to improve coordination and speed.

Nike said the restructuring is designed to reduce complexity across its global operations, enhance decision-making, and position the company for future growth in an increasingly competitive market.
