KYIV — Ukraine’s Defense Forces are steadily working to establish greater control over the airspace above Russian-occupied Crimea while simultaneously increasing pressure on Russian military logistics across the peninsula, according to military expert Serhii Hrabskyi.
Speaking on FREEДОМ TV, Hrabskyi said Ukrainian forces are conducting a coordinated campaign against Russian radar installations, air defense systems, and transportation networks using cruise missiles and strike drones. He added that naval drones are also playing an increasingly important role in disrupting maritime supply routes that support Russian military operations in Crimea.
According to the expert, Ukraine’s objective is not to completely isolate the peninsula but rather to reduce the flow of ammunition, fuel, and military supplies to a level that would significantly weaken Russian combat effectiveness.
“We are creating conditions for the skies over Crimea to come under the full control of Ukraine’s Defense Forces,” Hrabskyi said.
He argued that sustained attacks on logistics infrastructure could eventually make Russia’s position in Crimea difficult to maintain. Increasing operational pressure, he said, could force Russian forces into a withdrawal similar to those previously seen in the Kyiv, Chernihiv, and Kherson regions during earlier phases of the war.
Crimea, annexed by Russia in 2014, remains a strategically important military hub for Moscow and serves as a key platform for operations in the Black Sea region.
Hrabskyi also suggested that any future Ukrainian success in regaining control of Crimea could have consequences extending beyond the battlefield. According to him, the liberation of the peninsula could become a catalyst for renewed negotiations while expanding Ukraine’s operational reach.
The expert further argued that such a development could disrupt Russian Iranian communications through the Caspian region, potentially creating new political and strategic challenges for Moscow.
As the conflict continues, Crimea remains one of the most significant objectives in Ukraine’s long-term military strategy, with both sides viewing the peninsula as crucial to their broader security and geopolitical interests.
