The first road stage of the 2026 Volta a Portugal reshaped the race standings on 6 August, with Rui Oliveira moving into the Yellow Jersey after the finish in Queluz.
Francisco Campos, riding for Team Tavira Crédito Agrícola, won Stage 1 after 157.1 kilometres from Lourinhã to Queluz. Rui Oliveira crossed the line fourth, but the time gained during the stage was enough to move the UAE Team Emirates XRG rider into the overall lead.
General Classification
Rui Oliveira now leads the 87th Volta a Portugal, three seconds ahead of Rafael Reis. Miguel Salgueiro has moved into third place, nine seconds behind the race leader.
| Rank | Rider | Team | Gap |

Next: Stage 2
The race continues on 7 August with Stage 2 from Sines to Albufeira. The flatter route should offer the sprinters an opportunity, while the intermediate sprints and classified climb will also provide points for the secondary classifications.
For Rui Oliveira, the objective changes immediately. After beginning the race as one of UAE’s strongest cards, he now has the responsibility of defending the Yellow Jersey.
