George Russell Dominates Singapore Grand Prix, Mercedes Shines as McLaren Secures Constructors’ Title

Singapore – October 5, 2025 – George Russell claimed a commanding victory at the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday, held at the iconic Marina Bay Street Circuit. The Mercedes driver converted pole position into his fifth career win and second of the 2025 Formula 1 season. Russell led every lap and crossed the finish line more than six seconds ahead of Max Verstappen, who took second place for Red Bull.

“This was a perfect weekend. The car felt incredible, and we executed everything exactly as planned,” said Russell after the race, visibly pleased as contract renewal talks with Mercedes continue.

Norris and Piastri Clash as McLaren Clinches Constructors’ Title

Lando Norris secured third place after a dramatic start that saw light contact with his teammate, Oscar Piastri. The moment briefly raised tensions within McLaren, but race stewards classified it as a racing incident. Piastri, unable to recover momentum, finished fourth after a subdued performance.

Despite the intra-team friction, McLaren’s points haul from Singapore ensured the Woking-based outfit sealed its second consecutive Constructors’ Championship title, a remarkable feat that underlines its return to dominance. Piastri continues to lead the Drivers’ Championship with a 22-point margin over Norris.

Team principal Andrea Stella now faces the challenge of managing the growing rivalry between his two star drivers as the season enters its decisive final stretch.

Antonelli Strengthens Mercedes’ Weekend, Ferrari Falters Again

Kimi Antonelli capped off a strong weekend for Mercedes, finishing fifth after recovering from a tough start that dropped him down the order from his P4 grid slot. The young Italian showed resilience and race pace, contributing valuable points for the Silver Arrows in their fight with Ferrari for second in the Constructors’ standings.

Ferrari, by contrast, endured another difficult outing. The team struggled throughout practice and qualifying, lagging behind its main rivals. Charles Leclerc managed sixth place after overtaking Lewis Hamilton in the closing laps, aided by a braking issue on Hamilton’s car. Hamilton, who had staged a thrilling final stint on soft tires, initially crossed the line in eighth but received a five-second penalty for exceeding track limits.

Alonso Named Driver of the Day

Fernando Alonso was voted Driver of the Day after finishing seventh for Aston Martin, capitalizing on Hamilton’s penalty. It was another spirited performance from the veteran Spaniard, who extracted the maximum from his AMR25. His teammate, Lance Stroll, ended the race in 13th.

Points for Bearman and Sainz, Sauber’s Troubles Continue

Rookie Oliver Bearman scored valuable points for Haas with a solid drive to ninth place, followed by Carlos Sainz in tenth, earning Williams another top-ten finish.

For Sauber, it was a race to forget. Nico Hülkenberg, who started 11th, lacked pace in the midfield and eventually spun, finishing last. His teammate, Brazilian driver Gabriel Bortoleto, came home 17th in a disappointing weekend for the Swiss team.

Looking Ahead to Austin

With McLaren’s title secured and the Drivers’ Championship tightening, the battle between Piastri, Norris, and Russell promises an electrifying finale. Formula 1 now turns its attention to the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, scheduled for October 17–19.
