A violent attack on a train near Cambridge, eastern England, on Saturday evening has left at least 10 people hospitalized, with several suffering life-threatening injuries. Two men were arrested in connection with the incident, which Prime Minister Keir Starmer described as an “appalling incident.”
Major Incident Declared
The British Transport Police issued a statement early on Sunday, confirming that the stabbings had been deemed a “major incident”. The attack occurred aboard a train near Huntingdon, and reports indicate that nine of the ten victims sustained serious injuries, with some believed to be life-threatening.
“Ten people have been taken to the hospital, with nine believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries,” the statement read. “Counter Terrorism Policing are supporting our investigation while we work to establish the full circumstances and motivation for this incident.”
Swift Response from Police and Emergency Services
British Transport Police, alongside armed officers, responded to the emergency at Huntingdon Railway Station. Videos circulating on social media showed armed police entering the train following the attack.
Cambridgeshire police confirmed that they were called at 1939 GMT after receiving reports of multiple stabbings on board a train. Upon arrival, they arrested two men, though the identities of the suspects have not been revealed.
The East of England Ambulance Service launched a large-scale emergency response, deploying numerous ambulances and three air ambulances to the scene. Critical care teams were dispatched to provide immediate treatment to those injured.
“We can confirm we have transported multiple patients to the hospital,” the ambulance service reported.

Eyewitness Account and Police Action
An eyewitness, speaking to Sky News, described seeing one of the suspects waving a large knife on the train before being tasered by police. Authorities have not confirmed whether both arrested individuals were directly involved in the stabbings.
