ABU DHABI, UAE โ In a season that delivered drama, twists, and a nail-biting three-way title fight, McLaren’s Lando Norris has emerged victorious, securing the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The British driver crossed the finish line in third place, a result that proved more than sufficient to clinch his maiden world title.
Norris arrived at the Yas Marina Circuit with a relatively comfortable 12-point lead over his closest challenger, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. However, his journey to the championship was anything but straightforward, a testament to the rollercoaster nature of the 2025 season.

The championship pendulum began to swing back towards Norris at the Italian Grand Prix. In Monza, Norris finished second while Piastri, grappling with team orders and chaotic pit stops, took third. The momentum shift continued in the subsequent Azerbaijan Grand Prix, where Piastri endured a nightmare weekend of crashes in every session, culminating in a first-lap retirement. Despite a difficult race himself, Norris managed to score crucial points.
From the Italian leg of the calendar onwards, Norris steadily capitalized on his teammate’s woes and his own burgeoning form. It was at the Mexican Grand Prix that Lando finally reclaimed the championship lead, ascending to the top step of the podium while Piastri managed only a fifth-place finish.

The penultimate race in Qatar offered Norris his first opportunity to seal the championship early. But in fitting fashion for the 2025 season, the drama continued. A strategic error by McLaren not only gifted Max Verstappen a victory but relegated Norris to fourth, ensuring the title fight would go down to the very last race.
Verstappen’s win in Qatar also propelled him firmly into second place in the standings, piling additional pressure on the papaya-clad Briton. However, in Abu Dhabi, Norris delivered a composed performance. Without taking unnecessary risks, he secured a vital third-place finish, cementing his position as the newest name in the illustrious roster of Formula 1 World Champions.
