Rock legend Bruce Springsteen has released a powerful new protest song titled “Streets of Minneapolis”, aimed squarely at President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement actions in Minnesota. The music, released on 28 January 2026, was written and recorded over a single weekend in response to recent federal actions in Minneapolis that have sparked protests and nationwide debate.
Springsteen says the track is dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, innocent immigrant neighbours, and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good, two individuals who were killed during confrontations involving federal immigration agents.
The protest tune evokes imagery of conflict in the city, likening the federal agents to what Springsteen calls “King Trump’s private army” and calling for chants of “ICE Out!” from listeners. It builds from acoustic beginnings to a full-band arrangement with a harmonica solo and rallying vocals, echoing the style of his earlier politically charged work.
Springsteen’s decision to release a song so overtly critical of federal policy comes amid broader public outrage in Minneapolis, where local officials and activists have pushed back against aggressive immigration enforcement. Nationally, the issue has drawn attention from musicians, politicians, and commentators alike.
The release also follows Springsteen’s recent public criticism of Trump at live shows last year, during which he described the administration as corrupt and harmful to democratic values. Trump has previously dismissed Springsteen as “overrated,” highlighting a long-standing feud between the artist and the former president.
Context: The song’s title and spirit reference Springsteen’s 1990s classic “Streets of Philadelphia,” underlining his long history of musical engagement with social and political issues.
