The threat is not limited to human targets. In 2025, two Chinese nationals were charged with conspiring to smuggle Fusarium graminearum, commonly known as Head Blight, into the U.S.
While it may sound like mere “slime,” scientists classify this fungus as a potential agricultural terror weapon. It doesn’t just destroy grain; it produces toxins that cause liver damage and reproductive defects in humans and livestock.
“Attacks on crops are as old as war itself,” notes a regional strategic analyst. “From Romans salting the fields of Carthage to Soviet programs targeting wheat and rice, the goal remains the same: total economic and social collapse.”
