Tensions escalated in the Strait of Hormuz on Monday after Iranian state media claimed that missiles struck a US warship near the Gulf of Oman, a claim swiftly denied by the United States.

According to Iranian reports, the country’s navy blocked the entry of what it described as “American-Zionist” warships into the strait. The Fars News Agency further alleged that two missiles hit a US vessel near Jask after it ignored warnings issued by Iranian forces.

However, the U.S. Central Command rejected those claims, stating that no US Navy ship had been struck. “No US naval vessel was hit,” the command said in a statement on social media.

The exchange comes amid rising friction following remarks by Donald Trump, who announced that the United States would assist in guiding ships stranded in the Gulf due to the ongoing conflict involving Iran. Trump said the effort aimed to help vessels safely navigate out of restricted waters and resume operations.

In response, Iranian military officials issued a warning against foreign intervention in the waterway. Ali Abdollahi stated that all commercial shipping must coordinate with Iranian armed forces and cautioned that any unauthorized foreign military presence would be targeted.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical chokepoint for global energy supplies, linking the Gulf to international markets. Since the outbreak of the conflict, Iran has effectively restricted maritime traffic, disrupting a significant share of global oil and gas shipments and contributing to sharp increases in energy prices.

At the same time, the United States has imposed its own pressure by maintaining a naval blockade targeting Iranian ports. CENTCOM said it would support escort operations with a large deployment that includes approximately 15,000 personnel, more than 100 aircraft, naval vessels, and unmanned systems.

Admiral Brad Cooper said the mission is essential for regional security and the global economy, emphasizing that the United States aims to ensure safe navigation while maintaining pressure on Tehran.

With both sides issuing warnings and presenting conflicting narratives, the situation in the Strait of Hormuz remains volatile, raising concerns about the risk of further escalation in one of the world’s most strategically important maritime corridors.
