U.S. President Donald Trump said he has decided to cancel planned military strikes against Iran after what he described as significant progress toward a diplomatic agreement aimed at easing tensions in the Middle East.
In a post published late Saturday on Truth Social, Trump said Iran and several regional countries had requested that the United States delay any military action because the outlines of a deal had already been agreed upon.
According to the U.S. president, the proposed agreement would include the immediate and complete reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important shipping lanes, as well as what he described as “an end to Iran’s nuclear threat.”

Trump also claimed that Israel supports postponing military action, provided negotiations quickly lead to a formal agreement.
His announcement came amid reports in U.S. media that Washington had been preparing a new wave of large-scale strikes against Iran, potentially targeting energy infrastructure over the weekend. The U.S. government also issued a security advisory on Saturday urging American citizens across the Middle East to remain vigilant and prepare for possible evacuations should the regional situation deteriorate.
Despite Trump’s optimistic remarks, there has been no official confirmation from Tehran that any agreement has been reached.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi spent Saturday evening holding discussions with his counterparts in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey, according to statements published on his Telegram channel. Meanwhile, Iran’s acting defense minister, Majid Ibn al Reza, warned that the country would “neither be caught off guard nor remain passive,” according to Iranian state media.
Saudi Arabia has continued to push for a diplomatic solution. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reportedly told Trump during a telephone conversation that dialogue should remain the priority in order to reduce regional tensions and avoid further escalation.
The situation remains highly fluid, with Washington signaling a willingness to suspend military action while negotiations continue. However, without confirmation from Iran, uncertainty persists over whether a comprehensive agreement can be reached in the coming days.
