US President Donald Trump appeared to suggest that American and British authorities had additional information about the suspects.
Asked about the five men, Trump said: “We know all about them.”
When subsequently asked whether there was a connection to Iran, Trump nodded and said further information would emerge.
“You’ll be hearing about it very soon. We caught them,” Trump said, without providing further details or evidence supporting an Iranian connection.
The comments followed earlier remarks in which Trump said the suspects had been “looking to do big damage” at the base.
British police have not publicly confirmed Trump’s description of the alleged plot.
RAF Fairford assumes strategic importance
