A flock of giant Shaun the Sheep sculptures has taken over Peterborough city centre this summer in a vibrant public art trail designed to inspire, entertain, and connect the local community.

The “Find the Flock” trail, launched on Monday, features 12 larger-than-life Shaun the Sheep statues, each standing approximately 1.6 metres (5ft 3in) tall. Every sculpture has been uniquely decorated by a diverse group of national and international artists, turning the streets of Peterborough into a playful outdoor gallery.

Created in partnership with Aardman Animations and Wild in Art, the trail celebrates one of the UK’s most beloved animated characters while encouraging families to rediscover the city centre. The sculptures will remain in place until 31 August.

“This summer is all about reclaiming the city centre as a space for families to explore, play and connect,” said Paul Stainton, head of marketing at Peterborough Cathedral, one of the initiative’s key organisers. “With Shaun the Sheep leading the way, we are seeing incredible collaboration across Peterborough. It’s another brilliant example of what can happen when the whole city pulls in the same direction.”

Participants can purchase tickets online to receive a map of the trail. By locating each of the 12 Shauns, visitors can unlock a surprise at the end of the journey — adding an extra element of fun and discovery to the experience.

The project is sponsored by Queensgate Shopping Centre, which also serves as the trail’s starting point. “It’s a fantastic opportunity to support the community and help create magical moments for families right in the heart of the city,” said Verity Swinscoe-Wigmore, the centre’s marketing manager.

Beyond the sculpture trail, organisers have planned a series of family-friendly events throughout the summer, including The Vegetable Orchestra — a musical performance using real vegetables — and Farmathlon Live!, an interactive farm-themed activity experience.

The art trail is expected to draw both local residents and visitors to Peterborough, boosting foot traffic for local businesses and shining a spotlight on the city’s growing cultural scene.
