McLaren finally returned to the top step in Brazil after more than a decade. On Sunday, November 9, Lando Norris delivered a commanding performance at Interlagos, winning the 2025 São Paulo Grand Prix and extending his lead in the Formula 1 World Championship. It marked McLaren’s first victory in Brazil since Jenson Button’s triumph in 2012, ending an 11-race winless streak at the iconic José Carlos Pace Circuit.
The win also marked McLaren’s second consecutive victory of the season, following Norris’s success in Mexico, further consolidating the team’s status as a frontrunner in the 2025 campaign.
Norris Controls the Race from Start to Finish
Starting from pole position, Norris maintained control throughout the 71 laps, combining strong pace with a flawless pit strategy. The British driver led comfortably from lights to flag, finishing ahead of Kimi Antonelli, who achieved a career-best second place, and Max Verstappen, who recovered from a pit-lane start to secure third.
McLaren’s balanced car setup and precise tire management were key to the victory, allowing Norris to withstand late-race safety car interventions and maintain his rhythm. The triumph was his seventh of the season and the 11th of his Formula 1 career.
Oscar Piastri, on the other hand, continued his streak of near misses, finishing fifth for the third consecutive race. The Australian has not stood on the podium since Monza but remains consistent and crucial in McLaren’s fight for the Constructors’ Championship.

Norris Reflects on Red Bull’s Difficult Weekend
Speaking after the race, Norris reflected on the struggles faced by Red Bull and Verstappen, who only managed 16th in qualifying. “He’ll always be a threat, that’s for sure,” said Norris. “If he’d started further up, he probably would’ve won. But that’s racing. It’s easy to make mistakes in this sport, and we just took full advantage this weekend.”
Antonelli Shines, Verstappen Stuns with Comeback
Antonelli’s second-place finish marked a career milestone for the 18-year-old Mercedes rookie. Calm under pressure, he maintained a consistent pace and composure throughout, cementing his status as one of F1’s brightest rising talents.
Verstappen’s comeback from the pit lane to the podium was equally remarkable. Penalized for unauthorized power unit changes, the Dutchman carved through the field with trademark aggression and precision, gaining 18 positions to finish third, one of the standout performances of the season.
Midfield Battles and Bortoleto’s Disappointment
Behind the leaders, Oliver Bearman continued to impress with another top-10 finish for Haas, his fourth in a row, while Pierre Gasly brought Alpine their first main-race points since the Belgian Grand Prix.
Home favorite Gabriel Bortoleto endured a bittersweet weekend. Making his debut in front of the passionate Interlagos crowd, the Brazilian crashed in Saturday’s Sprint race but was cleared to race on Sunday. However, his home Grand Prix ended prematurely after a first-lap collision with Lance Stroll forced him to retire.
With his seventh victory of the year, Norris extended his lead in the championship to 24 points over Piastri and 49 over Verstappen. McLaren’s resurgence, combined with consistent performances from both drivers, suggests the British team has rediscovered its winning edge.
The São Paulo Grand Prix once again delivered drama, emotion, and a reminder that in Formula 1, nothing is ever certain, except that Lando Norris and McLaren are firmly back in the fight for glory.
