A strange celestial visitor has once again sparked debate across the scientific and online communities. The interstellar object known as Comet 3I/ATLAS has been drawing attention from astronomers since its discovery earlier this year, and now, Elon Musk has weighed in with a rather unusual response.
Appearing on The Joe Rogan Experience, Musk was asked about the mysterious comet that some reports suggest is heading toward the center of our solar system. His reply began with a promise that caught listeners’ attention. “If I was aware of any evidence of aliens — Joe, you have my word — I would come on your show and I would reveal it here,” Musk said.

As the conversation shifted to the composition of the comet, Rogan noted that scientists had detected traces of nickel within its gas cloud. Musk responded by explaining the connection between nickel-rich asteroids and Earth’s own geology. “There are definitely comets and asteroids that are made primarily of nickel. The places where you mine nickel on Earth are actually where there was an asteroid or comet that hit Earth — that was a nickel-rich meteorite,” he said.
The SpaceX and Tesla CEO then speculated humorously about the implications of a nickel-based spacecraft. “It would be a very sort of heavy spaceship if you made it all out of nickel,” he added. “It would, like, obliterate a continent type of thing, maybe worse.”
The interview, which ranged from space exploration to politics, once again demonstrated Musk’s ability to mix scientific insight with eccentric commentary. Elsewhere in the podcast, the billionaire, who has drawn controversy over his political statements and social media posts, claimed he identifies as a “centrist,” despite accusations of aligning with far-right figures in recent years.
