The 2025 FIA Formula One World Drivers’ Championship was the 76th season of Formula One racing. The championship was contested over twenty-four Grands Prix held around the world. Lando Norris, driving for McLaren-Mercedes, won his first World Drivers’ Championship, ending the three-year streak of Max Verstappen.

The season was characterized by a high level of parity among the top four teams, McLaren, Red Bull, Mercedes, and Ferrari, though McLaren’s consistent performance across the European and late-season flyaway rounds ultimately secured the title for Norris.

Season Review

The season began in Melbourne, where Lando Norris secured a dominant “Grand Slam” (Pole, Win, and Fastest Lap). While Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri shared victories in the early rounds (China, Japan, and Bahrain), Norris’s clinical consistency kept him at the top of the table.

A significant narrative of the season was the debut of Mercedes prodigy Kimi Antonelli, who impressed early by securing fastest laps and consistent points finishes, ultimately finishing 7th in the standings. George Russell and Charles Leclerc maintained a steady presence on the podium, with Russell enjoying a mid-season resurgence that included wins in Canada and Singapore.

The championship fight reached its climax during the triple-header in the Americas and the final Middle Eastern rounds. Despite a late-season charge by Verstappen, winning in Azerbaijan, the United States, and Las Vegas, Norris’s victories in Mexico and Brazil, combined with his podium in the Abu Dhabi finale, secured him the title with 342 points.
