MINNEAPOLIS — The United States is grappling with renewed unrest following a fatal shooting involving federal immigration officers in Minneapolis. The incident occurred on Saturday amid an intensifying nationwide crackdown on immigration orchestrated by the Trump administration.

According to hospital records obtained by the Associated Press, a 51-year-old man died after being shot by federal agents. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) defended the action, with spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin stating the individual was armed with a handgun and two magazines. DHS later released a photo of the weapon allegedly found at the scene, describing the situation as “evolving.”

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, a Democrat, confirmed he has been in direct contact with the White House following the shooting. Walz issued a public plea to President Trump to halt the federal operations within his state, emphasizing the escalating danger to the community.

The shooting sparked immediate outrage. Large crowds gathered near the scene, shouting at federal officers and calling them “cowards.” In a moment that further inflamed local tensions, one officer was seen mockingly responding to the grieving protesters before walking away.

This latest fatality follows weeks of daily protests in the Twin Cities, triggered by the January 7 death of Renee Good, a 37-year-old mother of three who was also fatally shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer. Minneapolis officials have urged residents to remain calm and avoid the area as investigations continue.
