SINGAPORE — Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese arrived in Singapore on Thursday for a high-profile three-day official visit aimed at cementing the “excellent” bilateral ties between the two nations. The visit, scheduled from April 9 to April 11, marks a significant milestone in the evolution of the Singapore-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) 2.0.
According to a statement released by Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), the visit serves to reaffirm a relationship that was recently elevated during Prime Minister Lawrence Wong’s visit to Australia in October 2025, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

Focus on Energy Security and Jurong Island
A central theme of this visit is economic resilience and energy security. Prime Minister Albanese is scheduled to tour Jurong Island, home to the Singapore LNG terminal and the Singapore Refining Company.
The focus on energy is timely; Singapore currently serves as a vital hub for Australian fuel needs, accounting for:

Regional Context and Trade Resilience
The meeting follows a phone call on Tuesday between PM Albanese and Chinese Premier Li Qiang. The regional energy landscape has been under pressure recently due to Beijing’s unacknowledged ban on fuel exports to protect its domestic market—a move that has forced several Asian nations to seek exemptions.
In response to such global volatility, Singapore and Australia announced on March 23 that they would accelerate negotiations for an Arrangement on Trade and Essential Supplies. This agreement aims to ensure the flow of essential goods, specifically diesel and LNG, by requiring both nations to notify and consult one another during supply chain disruptions.
Following the bilateral talks, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong will host an official lunch for Prime Minister Albanese before the Australian leader concludes his visit on Saturday.
