A site of global significance
Teotihuacan is one of the most important archaeological sites in the Americas, attracting millions of visitors each year. Once a major cultural and urban center in pre Hispanic Mesoamerica, it is renowned for landmarks such as the Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon.
The attack has raised concerns about security at major tourist destinations, particularly those with high international foot traffic.
Authorities are expected to increase security measures in the area as the investigation continues.
