New details continue to emerge from the dramatic shooting incident that disrupted the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C., offering a glimpse into the tense moments experienced by senior U.S. officials as gunfire broke out.

According to forensic lipreader Nicola Hickling, Vice President JD Vance reacted with urgency and confusion as security personnel rushed to evacuate him from the scene. As the situation unfolded, a bodyguard was seen urging him to flee, shouting for him to run immediately. Vance reportedly responded by asking what was happening while complying with the order and leaving the area quickly.

The incident occurred at the Washington Hilton Hotel, where U.S. President Donald Trump had been preparing to address journalists and political figures gathered for the annual event. Eyewitness footage shows Secret Service agents rapidly moving onto the stage, escorting Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and other officials to safety.

Authorities later confirmed that the suspect, identified as Cole Thomas Allen, 31, from California, had approached a security checkpoint armed with a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives. He was subdued by law enforcement before reaching the main event area.

During a press briefing after the incident, President Trump described the confusion in the room at the moment the shots were fired. He initially believed the noise might have been something falling, but quickly realized the seriousness of the situation. He noted that Melania Trump immediately recognized the sound as dangerous, reacting with heightened awareness as the couple took cover.

Within seconds of the gunfire, Trump, the First Lady, and Vice President Vance were seen ducking under a table on stage before being evacuated by security teams.

The emotional toll of the incident was also visible among attendees. Erika Kirk, the wife of late activist Charlie Kirk, who was killed in a separate attack last year, was seen leaving the venue visibly shaken and in tears, expressing a desire to leave immediately.

Officials have reiterated that the suspect acted alone, and investigations are ongoing to determine his motives. The incident has once again raised concerns over the security of high-profile political gatherings, even under heavy protection.

As more details surface, the episode stands as a stark reminder of the unpredictability of such threats and the split-second decisions required to protect those at the highest levels of government.
