The White House was temporarily placed under lockdown on Monday after police shot an individual near the Washington Monument, prompting a rapid security response in the US capital.

According to the United States Secret Service, the incident occurred in central Washington, D.C., close to one of the city’s most visited landmarks. Authorities confirmed that one person was shot by law enforcement officers, though details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting were not immediately disclosed.

Emergency services responded quickly, with a man transported to the hospital. Officials also said a teenager with minor injuries was treated at the scene. The condition of the individual who was shot remains unclear.

As a precaution, security around the White House was tightened while investigators assessed the situation. Journalists outside the residence were escorted indoors, and members of the public were advised to avoid the area.

At the time of the incident, Donald Trump was inside the White House attending an event with business leaders. The president continued with the event without interruption.

Fire and emergency services spokesperson Vito Maggiolo confirmed that medical teams were deployed to assist those affected and secure the scene.

Authorities have since stated that there is no ongoing threat, and the lockdown was lifted after the situation was brought under control.

Investigations are ongoing to determine what led to the shooting, as officials continue to gather information about the incident.
