A 22 year old woman has been killed and five other people injured in a shooting during a gathering in the Swiss town of Aarau, prompting a major police operation and an intensive search for those responsible.
According to information reported by the Emirates News Agency, Swiss authorities said emergency services were called to the scene following reports of gunfire. The young woman suffered critical injuries and died at the scene despite efforts to save her.
Five other people were injured in the incident and were transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment. Details about the severity of their injuries were not immediately available.
Major Police Operation in Aarau
Police established a broad security perimeter around the affected area as heavily armed officers were deployed across parts of Aarau.
The town, located roughly 50 kilometres west of Zurich, is the capital of the canton of Aargau and is generally regarded as a relatively quiet regional centre. The shooting therefore triggered considerable concern among residents as the scale of the security operation became apparent.
Authorities also increased security in surrounding areas as a precaution while officers searched for those believed to have been involved.
No suspects had been formally detained according to the initial information available.
Manhunt Underway
Investigators are working to reconstruct the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Forensic teams are examining evidence recovered from the scene, while detectives are gathering statements from witnesses and attempting to establish the sequence of events before and during the attack.
