WASHINGTON – One year into his second term, President Donald Trump has fundamentally reshaped the American landscape and global diplomacy. Through more than 225 executive orders and a relentless “America First” agenda, the administration has moved at a breakneck pace to overhaul federal policy, trade, and national security.

Here is a look at the most significant impacts of Trump’s first year back in the White House, as detailed by recent reports.

Domestic Overhaul: The “One Big Beautiful Bill”

In July 2025, the administration secured its signature legislative victory: the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. This sweeping law made the 2017 tax cuts permanent, eliminated taxes on tips and Social Security, and added $150 billion to defense spending. It also implemented work requirements for Medicaid and accelerated tax deductions to incentivize domestic business development.

A New Era of Immigration Enforcement

Illegal immigration has plummeted to record lows following the invocation of the Illegal Alien Enemies Act of 1798. The Department of Homeland Security reports that over 2.5 million illegal immigrants have been deported, while nearly 2 million others chose “self-deportation.” Trump also signed an executive order challenging birthright citizenship for children of illegal immigrants, a move currently being debated in the courts.

The Rise of DOGE

On his first day, Trump established the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), initially led by Elon Musk. The department claims to have saved $215 billion by canceling wasteful contracts and eliminating roughly 317,000 federal jobs—most of which were voluntary buyouts.

Reshaping Global Diplomacy and Trade

Trump’s “reciprocal tariffs” have reset global trade. The administration claims these revenues have helped lower the national debt, even proposing $2,000 tariff rebate checks for citizens. Key achievements include:

  • The “America First Global Health Strategy”: Replacing USAID with a new aid model that requires matching funds from recipient nations.

  • Middle East Peace Deals: Brokering the “Gaza Board of Peace” and securing over $2 trillion in investment deals with Gulf nations.

  • Military Might: A top-secret operation, “Midnight Hammer,” reportedly destroyed Iranian nuclear facilities in June 2025, followed by a swift ceasefire.

Shift in Ukraine and Climate Policy

The administration halted the Biden-era policy of free aid to Ukraine, shifting instead to negotiated arms sales and pressuring both Kyiv and Moscow toward a peace plan that may involve territorial concessions. Simultaneously, Trump withdrew the U.S. from the Paris Climate Accords for a second time and pulled out of the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change.

The MAHA Initiative

Under Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) initiative has radically changed food policy. This includes an inverted food pyramid and a push to remove junk food from federal food stamp programs, with 18 states already adopting the changes.

As the administration enters its second year, the focus remains on finalizing the acquisition of Greenland and navigating the legal challenges to its global tariff policy.
