NEW YORK — Sensational claims that Jeffrey Epstein served as a long-term intelligence asset for the KGB and later the Russian state have emerged from the massive trove of documents unsealed by the U.S. Department of Justice.
The 3.2 million pages of newly public files, which have already sent shockwaves through the global political establishment, contain memos and deposition summaries suggesting that Epstein’s vast “kompromat” operation was not merely for his personal leverage, but was funneled to Russian intelligence services.

According to reports in the Daily Mail, the documents include a 2011 assessment from a former intelligence operative claiming that Epstein had been recruited as a “useful idiot” by the KGB as early as the late 1980s. The files suggest that his primary mission was to infiltrate high-level Western circles and gather blackmail material on influential figures in politics, science, and finance.
Most explosive are the alleged links to Russian President Vladimir Putin. One memo outlines a series of “indirect communications” between Epstein’s associates and individuals within the Kremlin’s inner circle. The documents suggest that Epstein’s offshore accounts, which were the subject of intense scrutiny during his 2019 prosecution, may have received infusions of capital from Russian-linked entities to help sustain his ultra-wealthy lifestyle and facilitate his access to world leaders.
While previous theories have linked Epstein to various intelligence agencies, including the CIA and Mossad, these new files are the first to provide a documentary trail pointing toward Moscow. Analysts suggest that if these claims are verified, it would cast the entirety of Epstein’s social network—which famously included former presidents, royalty, and tech billionaires, in a new and far more dangerous light.
“If Epstein was indeed a Russian asset, his ‘Lolita Express’ and the infamous island were not just sites of depravity, but sophisticated tools of state-sponsored espionage,” a security source told the Daily Mail.
The Kremlin has historically dismissed any link to Epstein as “baseless fiction,” and legal experts caution that many of the claims in the files are based on third-party statements and have not been proven in a court of law. However, the sheer volume of the data dump has prompted calls for a new congressional inquiry into the national security implications of the Epstein saga.
As the Department of Justice continues to process the data, the focus has shifted from the crimes committed on Epstein’s properties to the potential that the victims were pawns in a much larger geopolitical game of shadow and leverage.
