TAMPA, FL — The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed on Monday that the death toll for American service members has risen to six since the commencement of “Operation Epic Fury,” the joint U.S.-Israeli military campaign against Iran.
In a statement released via X (formerly Twitter) at 4:00 p.m. ET, CENTCOM officials announced the recovery of the remains of two previously unaccounted-for service members. The individuals were reportedly stationed at a facility that sustained heavy damage during Iran’s initial retaliatory strikes against U.S. regional assets over the weekend.
Casualties in Kuwait: While CENTCOM did not specify the exact location of the deaths in its official communiqué, reports from CBS News, citing U.S. officials, indicate that all six service members were killed in Kuwait. The fatalities were the result of the same Iranian missile and drone offensive launched in response to the Saturday morning strikes that eliminated several high-ranking Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Earlier on Monday, the military had reported four deaths, including one service member who succumbed to severe injuries sustained during the initial wave of attacks. CENTCOM stated that the identities of the deceased will be withheld for 24 hours until the notification of next of kin is complete.
“Operation Epic Fury” Continues: Despite the rising casualty count, CENTCOM characterized the current status of the mission as “major combat operations ongoing.” The joint offensive has significantly impacted Iranian military infrastructure and leadership, but it has also triggered a volatile wave of retaliation across the Gulf.
In addition to the six fatalities, at least 18 other service members have been reported wounded since the conflict began. The U.S. and its allies remain on high alert as Iranian forces and regional proxies continue to target military installations and strategic points in neighboring Gulf states.
Diplomatic Fallout: The loss of American life has intensified the political pressure on the Trump administration. While President Trump has vowed a “forceful response” and warned that casualties may continue to rise, international leaders, including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, have called for urgent diplomacy and offered condolences for the loss of life on all sides of the escalating conflict.
As of Monday evening, U.S. forces remain engaged in active combat, with no immediate sign of a ceasefire despite the mounting human cost.
