A race decided in the Adelaide Hills
The 26th edition of the Tour Down Under began with a short 3.6-kilometre individual time trial in Adelaide before five road stages across South Australia’s rolling countryside.
The decisive moment came on Stage 2, where Jay Vine and teammate Jhonatan Narváez launched a powerful attack in the hills between Norwood and Uraidla.
The duo finished nearly one minute ahead of the chasing peloton, with Vine taking both the stage victory and the overall race lead.
From that point onward, the Australian never relinquished the ochre jersey.

Stage-by-stage highlights
Prologue – Adelaide (3.6 km ITT)
British rider Sam Watson produced the fastest time in the opening individual time trial to claim the first leader’s jersey of the race.
Stage 1 – Tanunda to Tanunda (120.6 km)
The first road stage ended in a high-speed bunch sprint.
Tobias Lund Andresen narrowly defeated Matthew Brennan and Sam Welsford, taking both the stage victory and the ochre jersey.
Stage 2 – Norwood to Uraidla (148.1 km)
The race exploded in the Adelaide Hills as Jay Vine and Jhonatan Narváez broke clear of the peloton.
Working together throughout the final kilometres, the UAE Team Emirates riders built an advantage of almost one minute before Vine crossed the finish line first.
The victory handed him both the stage win and overall race lead.
Stage 3 – Henley Beach to Nairne (140.8 km)
Australian sprint specialist Sam Welsford powered to victory after an excellent lead-out from Ben Swift.
Despite the sprint finish, Vine comfortably retained the leader’s jersey.
Stage 4 – Brighton to Willunga (131 km)
Britain’s Ethan Vernon dominated the uphill sprint into Willunga, winning by several bike lengths over Tobias Lund Andresen and Laurence Pithie.
The day’s biggest setback came when second-placed rider Jhonatan Narváez crashed and was forced to abandon the race, removing Vine’s closest teammate from contention.
Nevertheless, the Australian maintained his overall lead entering the final day.
Stage 5 – Stirling to Stirling (169.9 km)
The closing stage concluded with another fast uphill sprint.
Brady Gilmore launched the sprint, but Matthew Brennan produced the strongest acceleration in the closing metres to take victory ahead of Finn Fisher-Black and Tobias Lund Andresen.
Jay Vine safely finished with the main contenders to confirm overall victory.
Brennan impresses on final day
Although Brennan narrowly missed the overall podium, his stage victory in Stirling highlighted the impressive talent of one of cycling’s brightest young sprinters.
His perfectly timed acceleration earned him his biggest WorldTour victory to date and concluded the race on a high note.
Vine delivers on home roads
For Jay Vine, winning Australia’s most prestigious stage race represents another milestone in an already successful career.
The Australian demonstrated climbing strength, tactical awareness and consistency throughout the week, never showing signs of weakness after taking the leader’s jersey on Stage 2.
His victory also underlined the strength of UAE Team Emirates, which controlled the race from the decisive mountain stage onward despite losing Narváez before the finish.
