WASHINGTON D.C. — The Pentagon has developed detailed blueprints for the potential deployment of U.S. ground forces into Iran, according to multiple sources briefed on the discussions. The revelation comes as the Trump administration weighs its next moves in the rapidly escalating, U.S.-Israel-led conflict with the Iranian regime.
While no final decision has been made, senior military commanders have reportedly submitted specific requests to ensure the Armed Forces are prepared for a ground-based option.
Absolute bombshell. Leaked reports reveal the Pentagon is making detailed preparations to deploy thousands of US Marines for a ground invasion of Iran. When asked about seizing Kharg Island to cut off Iran's oil, Trump refused to deny it. A total nightmare. pic.twitter.com/GcC1qD0v8x

“Maximum Optionality”
The White House has characterized these preparations as routine military planning. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt emphasized that the existence of these plans does not indicate an imminent invasion.
“It’s the job of the Pentagon to make preparations to give the Commander in Chief maximum optionality,” Leavitt said in a statement. “It does not mean the President has made a decision.”
President Trump himself addressed the reports during an Oval Office briefing on Thursday. “No, I’m not putting troops anywhere,” he told reporters, before adding, “If I were, I certainly wouldn’t tell you.”
Specific Contingencies: Detentions and Objectives
Sources indicate the planning is highly granular. Military officials have reportedly held meetings to discuss the logistics of a ground offensive, including the potential detention of Iranian soldiers and paramilitary fighters. These discussions have covered everything from tactical objectives to specific locations where detainees might be held.
Strategic options being floated include:
-
Securing Maritime Assets: Small-scale deployments to Iranian ports or Persian Gulf islands to ensure the Strait of Hormuz remains open.
-
Energy and Nuclear Leverage: Missions tasked with securing Iran’s oil facilities or uranium stockpiles to force the regime into diplomatic or military concessions.
Escalating Troop Movements
The reports coincide with a visible surge in U.S. military posture. Thousands of Marines are currently being repositioned toward the Middle East. Earlier this week, three warships and approximately 2,200 personnel from a Marine Expeditionary Unit departed California, the second such unit to deploy since the conflict began.
Furthermore, the Pentagon is reportedly preparing to deploy elements of the 82nd Airborne Division and the Army’s Global Response Force to the region.
As “Operation Epic Fury” enters its third week, the transition from aerial and naval strikes to potential ground operations remains the most critical question facing the administration. For now, the Pentagon’s message is clear: they are ready for every scenario, even as the President publicly maintains a desire to “wind down” efforts.
