QUETTA — Security forces in Pakistan’s restive Balochistan province conducted a major intelligence-based operation on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of six suspected militants. The clash occurred in the Kirdgab area of Mastung district, where authorities say they disrupted a plot to paralyze regional transport links.

The operation targeted members of “Fitna al Hindustan,” a specific designation used by the state to identify various terrorist organizations operating within the province.

Intelligence-Led Engagement

Acting on “precise and actionable” intelligence, security forces cordoned off a segment of the Kirdgab area early Tuesday morning. Officials reported that the militants were in the process of organizing a blockade of a strategic highway—a common tactic used by insurgent groups to disrupt supply lines and government movement.

As the security perimeter closed in, the militants reportedly initiated a heavy exchange of fire.

“Six terrorists belonging to the Fitna al Hindustan group were killed in the ensuing firefight, which lasted several hours,” a senior security official confirmed. “Our troops successfully neutralized the immediate threat and prevented the planned highway blockade.”

Seizures and Fugitives

Following the gun battle, a sweep of the hideout yielded a “large quantity” of sophisticated weaponry and ammunition, including assault rifles and explosives. The recovery suggests the cell was prepared for a prolonged engagement or a series of larger-scale attacks across the district.

However, the operation was not a total capture; security sources noted that several militants managed to escape the initial cordon. These individuals reportedly fled into the rugged, mountainous terrain surrounding Mastung. A follow-up search and “sanitization” operation is currently underway to track the fugitives.

Regional Context

Mastung has long been a flashpoint for militant activity, frequently serving as a transit point for groups targeting Quetta or the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects. Tuesday’s operation is part of an intensified summer campaign by Pakistani security forces to stabilize Balochistan amid a recent uptick in cross-border and domestic insurgent violence.

While the “Fitna al Hindustan” designation covers several splinter cells, the government has signaled that it will continue to use “overwhelming force” against any group attempting to challenge the state’s control over critical infrastructure and highways.
