As Formula 1 arrives in the United States for the first time in the 2026 season with the Miami Grand Prix, IBM and Scuderia Ferrari have unveiled a new wave of artificial intelligence-driven features designed to redefine how fans engage with the sport.

The enhanced capabilities, integrated into the Scuderia Ferrari mobile app, aim to bring the team’s global fanbase of nearly 400 million supporters closer to race action, drivers, and team history through a more interactive and personalized experience.

At the core of the update is an AI-powered “Companion,” built using IBM’s watsonx platform. The feature functions as a digital guide, allowing fans to explore race insights, historical data, and technical details through conversational prompts. Users can ask questions about Ferrari’s performance, car development, or race strategies and receive tailored responses based on both real-time and archival data.

IBM’s orchestration technology enables the system to deliver contextual answers, combining current race information with historical knowledge about Ferrari’s legacy in Formula 1.

The app also introduces a redesigned Game Center, offering fans a more immersive way to participate during race weekends. Features include prediction games, quizzes, and interactive challenges tied to live race events. A global leaderboard system, digital achievements, and social sharing tools aim to foster a sense of competition and community among fans worldwide.

One of the highlights is the Countdown Quiz, a fast-paced challenge where users test their knowledge against a 60-second timer. A new achievements system allows fans to unlock digital badges and share their progress across social platforms, further enhancing engagement.

In addition, the upgraded Race Center provides deeper real-time insights, including detailed session timelines, improved driver data tracking, and curated analysis throughout each stage of a race weekend, from practice sessions to the final lap.

According to IBM executive Jonathan Adashek, the initiative reflects a broader shift in fan expectations. He emphasized that modern audiences seek more immersive and connected experiences, with technology playing a key role in bridging the gap between fans and the sport.

IBM, serving as Ferrari’s official fan engagement and data analytics partner, collaborated closely with the team to redesign the app experience. Since its relaunch in 2025, the platform has recorded significant growth, including a 35% increase in downloads and a 56% rise in active users during race weekends.

Engagement metrics have also surged, with notable increases in content views and user interaction, highlighting the growing appetite for digital innovation in motorsport.

Further updates are expected throughout the 2026 season as both organizations continue to expand the app’s capabilities, aiming to set a new benchmark for fan interaction in Formula 1.
