The United States Mint has officially released a new commemorative $1 coin honoring Steve Jobs as part of its ongoing American Innovation Coin Program.
The collectible coin, which went on sale this week through the U.S. Mint’s official website, celebrates Jobs’ role in transforming the global technology industry through his work at Apple.
The design portrays a young Steve Jobs seated outdoors wearing his iconic black turtleneck, jeans, and sneakers against a Northern California landscape backdrop.
According to the Mint, the image captures Jobs “in a moment of reflection,” symbolizing how California’s environment influenced his vision for making advanced technology feel intuitive and accessible.

Steve Jobs Archive Helped Support Design
The coin design was supported by the Steve Jobs Archive with backing from Gavin Newsom.
The archive noted that Jobs maintained a deep personal connection to California’s natural beauty throughout his life and career.
“The innovative and entrepreneurial spirit of Steve Jobs embodied the best of California,” Newsom said in a statement announcing the coin’s release.
“His tenacity and fearless pursuit of the California Dream made so many American dreams possible,” the governor added.
Part of the American Innovation Coin Program
The Steve Jobs coin forms part of the American Innovation $1 Coin Program, launched in 2018 to recognize influential innovators and groundbreaking achievements from every U.S. state, territory, and the District of Columbia.
The program has previously honored scientific discoveries, engineering accomplishments, and historic technological advances across American history.
Officials say the Jobs coin reflects the enormous cultural and economic impact of Silicon Valley and the digital revolution shaped by Apple products such as the iPhone, Mac, and iPad.
Collectors Rush for Limited Release
The collectible coins are being sold in several formats through the Mint.
A roll containing 25 coins is priced at $61, while bags containing 100 coins are available for $154.50.
Collectors and technology enthusiasts quickly reacted online following the launch, with many praising the design for capturing Jobs’ minimalist style and connection to innovation.
Lasting Legacy in Technology
Steve Jobs remains one of the most influential figures in modern technology history.
After co-founding Apple in 1976 alongside Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne, Jobs helped pioneer personal computing, smartphones, digital music, and modern consumer technology design.
His leadership transformed Apple into one of the world’s most valuable and recognizable companies before he died in 2011.
The release of the commemorative coin reflects the continued cultural significance of Jobs’ legacy more than a decade after his passing.
