Oxford, UK – June 20, 2025 — In a dramatic breach of national security, activists from the direct-action group Palestine Action infiltrated the United Kingdom’s largest air force base early Friday morning, vandalizing two military aircraft in a protest against the UK’s defense ties with Israel.

The incident took place at RAF Brize Norton, a key strategic hub for Britain’s overseas military operations, located in Oxfordshire. According to the group’s video footage shared online, two activists accessed the base in the pre-dawn hours using electric scooters, evading security personnel and surveillance.

Once inside, they reportedly sprayed red paint into the turbine engines of two Airbus Voyager aircraft, planes commonly used for military cargo transport and aerial refueling, including those operated by the Israeli and British air forces. The activists also used crowbars to inflict physical damage on the planes and sprayed red paint across the runway, which they described as a symbol of “Palestinian bloodshed.”

Palestine Action released a statement claiming responsibility, saying the act was meant to protest “British complicity in Israel’s ongoing assault on Gaza.” The group emphasized that the targeted planes play a direct logistical role in military operations by Israel.

No arrests have been made so far, and the activists responsible are reportedly still at large. Thames Valley Police confirmed it is working closely with the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and the Royal Air Force to investigate the breach. “Inquiries are ongoing to locate and arrest those responsible,” police said in a statement.

The MoD condemned the incident, describing it as “vandalism of Royal Air Force assets” and confirmed that an investigation is underway. However, the ministry did not immediately indicate whether a broader review of base security would be initiated.

Former Defence Secretary Grant Shapps reacted strongly on social media, calling for a “full security review,” and branding the incident as far more serious than a protest: “Storming an RAF base isn’t protest — it’s a national security breach.”

Friday’s incident is the latest in a series of high-profile disruptions by Palestine Action, a group known for its radical protests and acts of vandalism targeting British companies and institutions linked to Israel’s defense industry, particularly Elbit Systems, an Israeli weapons manufacturer.

While critics denounce the group’s actions as criminal and reckless, its supporters argue that non-violent direct action is necessary to challenge the UK’s defense partnerships with Israel during the war in Gaza, which has killed thousands and sparked worldwide protests.

The UK government has yet to release an official statement regarding possible changes to security protocols at RAF bases.

As tensions rise both abroad and at home, the event underscores growing domestic unrest around Britain’s involvement in the Israeli conflict — and raises serious questions about the vulnerability of critical military infrastructure.
