WASHINGTON — In a stunning display of executive defiance, President Donald Trump launched a scorched-earth verbal assault against the Supreme Court on Friday, following a landmark ruling that dismantled a cornerstone of his economic agenda.

The high court ruled 6-3 that the President overstepped his legal authority by imposing sweeping global tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). The decision effectively declares a significant portion of the administration’s trade levies unlawful, dealing a massive blow to the protectionist policies that have defined Trump’s second term.

“A Ridiculous Opinion”

Speaking from the White House shortly after the decision was handed down, a visibly irate President lambasted the justices for what he termed a “ridiculous opinion.” The President argued that the ruling created a logical paradox, claiming the law allows him to inflict total economic ruin on a nation but forbids him from collecting revenue through duties.

“The court said that I’m not allowed to charge even $1! Can’t charge one dollar to any country under IEEPA!” Trump raged during the address. “But I am allowed to cut off any trade or business with that same country; in other words, I can destroy the trade, I can destroy the country!”

The President continued his escalation, suggesting that if the courts prevented him from taxing imports, he would turn to more extreme measures. “I’m even allowed to impose a foreign country-destroying embargo, I can embargo! I can do anything I want, but I can’t charge $1!”

Economic “Catastrophe” Looming?

For months, the White House has framed the tariff battle as an existential crisis for the American economy. Trump has repeatedly warned that a judicial reversal of his trade policy would lead to a “$2 trillion catastrophe” and degrade the United States to “almost Third World status.”

Legal experts noted that the 6-3 ruling specifically targeted the administration’s broad interpretation of the IEEPA, which the executive branch had used to justify tariffs as a matter of national security. By striking this down, the Court has reasserted Congressional authority over international commerce.

Vow to Circumvent

Despite the legal setback, the President signaled that he has no intention of retreating. During his remarks, he hinted at the development of “alternatives”—new tariff structures designed to bypass the Court’s specific objections.

“I can do anything I want to do to them, but I can’t charge any money,” Trump said, mocking the judicial constraints. “So I’m allowed to destroy the country, but I can’t charge them a little fee. How ridiculous is that?”

The President concluded by suggesting that his “alternative” plans would ultimately generate “more money” than the original policies, though he offered no specifics on the legal mechanism he intended to use. As markets react to the uncertainty of a potential constitutional showdown between the Oval Office and the Judiciary, the nation remains on edge over the future of American trade.
