FC Arouca produced one of the first major statements of the new Liga Portugal season, sweeping aside Moreirense FC 4,0 to maintain their perfect start and move to the top of the early championship standings.
An own goal from Maracás in the 23rd minute opened the scoring before José Fontán doubled the advantage seven minutes later. Iván Barbero struck in first half stoppage time to send Arouca into the interval three goals ahead, and Dylan Nandin completed an emphatic afternoon with the fourth in the 90+1st minute.

Six points from six.
And, after two rounds, an early place at the summit.

Seven Minutes Change the Match
For the opening 20 minutes, there was little indication that the afternoon would eventually produce such a convincing scoreline.
Then the match changed quickly.
The breakthrough arrived after 23 minutes when Maracás turned the ball into his own net, handing Arouca the advantage.
Moreirense needed to settle.
Instead, Arouca struck again.
Only seven minutes later, José Fontán made it 2,0.
Two goals in seven minutes had transformed the contest and given the hosts control both on the scoreboard and psychologically.
For Moreirense, recovering before half time became essential.
Arouca had other plans.
Barbero Makes It Three Before the Break
The third goal may have been the most damaging.
With the first half entering stoppage time, Iván Barbero struck in the 45+1st minute.
Arouca went into the dressing room 3,0 ahead.
The timing changed the entire complexion of the second half.
Moreirense were no longer searching simply for the goal that could bring them back into contention. They required an extraordinary recovery.
Arouca, meanwhile, could manage the match from a position of overwhelming strength.
For Barbero, it continued an excellent personal start to the season.
The forward had already scored the decisive goal in Arouca’s 1,0 victory at Vitória SC on Matchday 1.
One week later, he was on the scoresheet again.
From Guimarães to Arouca
The contrast between Arouca’s first two victories also demonstrates why their opening deserves attention.
Their first assignment required patience.
Vitória SC 0,1 FC Arouca
One goal.
A clean sheet.
Three points.
Their second demonstrated something completely different.
FC Arouca 4,0 Moreirense FC
Four goals.
Another clean sheet.
Another three points.
Arouca have therefore shown that they can win a tight away contest and dominate a home match.
That versatility is one of the most encouraging aspects of their opening two rounds.
Nandin Completes the Rout
The second half did not require Arouca to maintain the attacking intensity of the opening 45 minutes.
The damage had already been substantial.
Protecting the clean sheet and controlling the contest became increasingly important as the match progressed.
Moreirense could not produce the comeback they needed.
Then, in stoppage time, came one final blow.
Dylan Nandin scored in the 90+1st minute to make it 4,0.
The fourth goal transformed a comfortable victory into the largest winning margin recorded in Matchday 2 to that point.
It also strengthened Arouca’s position in the early table.
Five Scored, None Conceded
The most striking aspect of Arouca’s start is visible at both ends of the pitch.

Arouca have played 180 minutes of Liga Portugal football without conceding.
At the other end, four different scoring contributions have already shaped their campaign.
Barbero has emerged as an early attacking reference, while Fontán and Nandin added their names to the scoresheet against Moreirense.
The combination has produced the strongest goal difference among the early perfect starters.
Barbero’s Excellent Opening
Iván Barbero deserves particular attention.
The striker decided Arouca’s first league match of the season when his 54th minute goal produced a 1,0 victory at Vitória.
Against Moreirense, he scored again.

Matchday 1
Vitória SC 0,1 FC Arouca
Barbero 54′
Matchday 2
FC Arouca 4,0 Moreirense
Barbero 45+1′
Two matches. Two goals.
For a team that has started the campaign with maximum points, having a forward immediately finding the net provides an important additional source of confidence.
A Difficult Afternoon for Moreirense
The result produces a very different early season picture for Moreirense.
They began the campaign with an entertaining 2,2 draw against SC Braga in Moreira de Cónegos.
That performance provided both a point and encouragement.
The visit to Arouca brought neither.

Four goals conceded in a single afternoon will inevitably demand analysis.
The crucial period came between the 23rd minute and first half stoppage time, when Arouca scored three times and effectively decided the match before the interval.
For Moreirense, the priority will be ensuring that one heavy defeat does not become something more damaging.
The Early Leaders
Arouca’s victory carries additional significance because of what it does to the provisional table.
FC Porto have also won their opening two matches, beating Alverca and Rio Ave without conceding.
Promoted Marítimo have likewise collected six points from six.
But Arouca’s superior goal difference places them at the head of that early group after Sunday’s results.
Perfect Starters
1 · FC Arouca · 6 pts · +5
2 · FC Porto · 6 pts · +4
3 · Marítimo · 6 pts · +2
It is far too early to draw conclusions about the championship race.
But the table already contains one of the first intriguing stories of the season.
Arouca are not simply unbeaten.
They are perfect.
Defence Provides the Foundation
Five goals naturally attract attention.
Zero conceded may ultimately matter more.
Arouca have now prevented both Vitória SC and Moreirense from scoring.
That defensive record gives them an important foundation.
When Barbero scored the only goal in Guimarães, one was enough.
When the attack exploded against Moreirense, the defence remained equally reliable.
The ability to maintain that balance will determine whether this impressive opening develops into something more substantial.
Match Notes
Perfect Start
Arouca have collected all six available points.

Four Goal Statement
The victory represents Arouca’s biggest result of the young 2026/27 campaign.
Moreirense Searching
Moreirense remain without a victory after collecting one point from their opening two matches.
An Early Test Is Already Coming
Arouca will not have long to enjoy their position.
Their next league assignment provides one of the most fascinating early fixtures of the campaign.
FC Porto vs FC Arouca.
The defending champions against one of the season’s perfect starters.
Both clubs have six points.
Both have won twice.
Neither has conceded.
For Arouca, the trip to the Estádio do Dragão will provide a much clearer indication of just how significant this opening might become.
What is already beyond dispute is that they will arrive there on merit.
Open Chronicle Verdict
Arouca could hardly have asked for a better opening two weeks.
The first victory was narrow and disciplined.
The second was emphatic.
Maracás’ own goal opened the door. José Fontán immediately increased the pressure. Iván Barbero effectively settled the contest before half time. Dylan Nandin added the final flourish in stoppage time.
But the most impressive number may still be zero.
Zero goals conceded.
Two matches into the season, Arouca have maximum points, the strongest goal difference among the early leaders and a striker who has scored in both rounds.
The next challenge is considerably greater.
For now, however, the early Liga Portugal table has an unexpected name at the top.
